A Session That Will Stay With Me Forever

There are some sessions that become part of you.

As a photographer I am invited into the most personal chapters of people's lives and on some occasions, I am trusted with something so very fragile.

Recently, I had the honour of photographing two first-time parents Grace and Jordon as they prepared to welcome their baby, James. They knew that their little one was facing serious challenges ahead and that their time together may be short. There are no words that can truly capture what it must feel like to prepare for both a beginning and a goodbye at the same time.

Our session took place in the comfort of their home. There were nerves at what this session would entail, tears that didn’t need explaining and some beautiful smiles as Grace and Jordan relevelled in the present moment with their baby.

It was one of the most emotionally challenging sessions I've ever photographed.

I was so in awe of this couple, you could just feel the love radiating, both for each other and for James. I don’t think I have the words to describe it. They leant into each other so completely, heart and soul.

For me this session was about being a witness to James’ story and above all else, preserving love.

It reminded me why I became a photographer in the first place, not just to create beautiful images, but to serve families during every chapter of their lives, capturing the moments that will one day become a memory.

Because of this experience, I made a decision to become a volunteer photographer with the Butterfly Wishes Network. This organisation gifts professional photoshoots to families of children with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses.
